Alison Goodwin

Exhibition Information

Born in Montreal, Canada in 1959, Alison Goodwin moved with her family to Portland, Maine when she was nine years old. Determined to be an artist from the age of five, Alison studied art at the University of Southern Maine and at Portland School of Art.

Following her studies, Alison primarily created traditional landscapes. After several years, she evolved a highly individual style using acrylic paint, oil bars, and oil pastels to create works that explode with colour and movement.

The skewed perspective, rich texture, dramatic colour and expressive drawing in Alison's work recalls Van Gogh and Matisse. Like her great predecessors, Alison reveals with striking spontaneity and directness the personal and spiritual world she has discovered. This is not unexpected in Goodwin, who seems to find her artistic sense of self in a space between living and dreaming.
