Andrew
Benyei is a painter and sculptor who exhibits his
versatility both in the media in which he works
and the subject matter he depicts.
His paintings in watercolour, oil and acrylics capture
the beauty of nature as well as the excitement and
interest of the urban setting. His whimsical art
shows his humour, and he captures the personality
vividly in his portraits in both painting and sculpture.
His sculptures range from the classical figure to
the abstract. Much of his work depicts the human
condition in ironic, sensitive and humorous ways.
His figurative work is often anecdotal in a way
that invites exploration of a possible underlying
story. He uses a variety of media including bronze,
fired clay, steel, wood and fibreglass.
Following his studies at the University of Toronto
and the Ontario College of Art, Benyei worked as
a professional engineer. In 1990 he decided on developing
his creative ability- and at his first one man show
sold a total of 32 pieces! Since then he has exhibited
widely across Ontario in many gallery shows and
juried exhibitions. He is represented by over a
dozen galleries in Canada and the United States.
Benyei currently works out of his studio in Toronto.
