Deborah
DuPont's prize winning work is collected throughout
the world. A veteran of over two hundred one-woman shows,
museum exhibits and juried competitions, her work is
in over 1000 corporate and private collections. Her
architectural images take you into her world where forgotten
corners are transformed into precious works of art.
Through color and light, she captures the delicate essence
of these locales and entriches them with her own compelling
artistic style. Deborah was born and raised in San Antonio,
Texas, the oldest chld of second generation Americans.
She was the first person in her family to attend college,
graduating with an art degree after working her way
through by alternating a year of work and saving, with
a year in school. Her frst and only job after graduation
was a single day stint at a local advertising agency,
"Too confining!," she said. Luckily, Deborah's
work had already started to be recognized. In fact,
she needed to complete two different senior projects
before graduation, because the first one sold off of
her wall when a local gallery owner brought an out-of-town
client over to see her newest works. She considers her
formative years in San Antonio, growing up with the
Alamo and other missions as a major influence in her
work. She explains, "The mental sense of strength
and purpose that I felt from the shape and scope of
these works of art always seemed to mingle with the
physical feeling of refreshing coolness that came over
me as I stepped out of the blazing Texas sun, past those
overly thick walls and into a world that was in such
contrast to the cookie cutter, homogenous buildings
of post-war America. That feeling of comfort, strength
and beauty is what I try to impart in my work."
She currently resides and creates at her studio in the
Hill Country between Austin and San Antonio, but every
year she takes a month long sabbatical outside of the
United States to recharge her batteries and find inspiration
for new works. Some of her favorite areas include; the
mountainous states of Guanajuato, Zacatecas and San
Luis Potosi in Mexico, the warm richness of the Cingue
Terra and Tuscan regions of Italy, as well as the romantic
splendor of Venice, the cobblestone streets of Viejo
San Juan, Puerto Rico, the olive covered region of central
Spain, the open air markets of Provence in France and
the faded elegance of Havana, Cuba.
