Ken
Enlow, a native of Montreal, currently works and lives
in Toronto. Ken has been taking photographs for over
a decade and during this time he has focused on developing
his vision as a professional photographer. His philosophy
on life is captured in his work. Old is beautiful
and sometimes the older the better. Whether it be
the subject matter or style of the photo, Ken embraces
a celebration of age. Architecture, landscapes, and
people. They each carry history in their stones and
brick, mountains and rivers, and the faces of the
people who live around the world. Trying to capture
these moments in time means that Ken often looks way
up or way down to find an image that emulates history
without blatant clues to the age of the photo. A successful
photo for Ken, is one where the viewer has difficulty
deciphering when the photo was taken. Removing everyday
corporate advertising and distracting modernisms is
a daunting task but one that is necessary in capturing
the natural essence of the subject.
Ken
has traveled across Canada, into the United States,
Greece, Britain, Mexico and Spain. In his travels,
he studies the lands and the people through his lens.
And though he makes his home in Toronto, he still
walks around this city like a tourist with his camera.
Ken's subject matter includes: abandoned houses, run
down buildings, escape staircases, balconies, shadows,
churches, people, trees, animals, landscapes and flowers.
He tries to shoot things in an unconventional way,
often opting for just a section of the subject rather
than the whole subject.
For
Ken, there is beauty everywhere, and in everything.
He doesn't manipulate the subject matter to create
beauty - the subject matter manipulates his camera.
